Caring for the animals – settler’s farm in the snow

Emsland Moormuseum is in the throes of winter. Except for very young piglets, all the museum’s animals live outside the year round. Snow, ice and plummeting temperatures mean that special care is needed for the pigs, geese and sheep in the outdoor grounds. The Bentheim Black Pied pigs get copious amounts of straw in their sties, and extra portions of carrots, of course. The frigid temperatures do not bother the pigs at all. They gambol in the snow and cheerfully plough up the grassland in spite of the frost.

New in 2021: Discovery tours of the museum

New in 2021: Discovery tours of the museum

From March to October, we offer exciting activities for children on a range of educational and museum-related topics. Children who participate in all parts of a theme-based tour receive a museum discoverer award and a surprise gift.

The children’s activities promote playful learning while encouraging participation. With the help of qualified educators, children become familiar with the fields of peat moorland, energy, gardens, bees and orchards through exploration, learning, hands-on experience and experimentation.

You will find the individual dates in the annual programme on our website, under Events, or you can call us on: +49 (0)5937 709990
